Maya Sfakianaki (2023-2024)

Maya Sfakianaki is an emerging curator with a focus on short content. In 2017 she graduated in Film Studies from The University of Kent (UK) and began working in events in London cinemas. She worked at both Curzon and Picturehouse before she moved to festival production and joined festivals across the UK, such as the BFI London Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and Sheffield Documentary Festival. Meanwhile she worked for Disney and AppleTV productions as an Assistant Location Manager. In 2020 she began her first programming role at the BFI Film Academy which gave her the chance to progress from production to curation. She is now curating for two major festivals in her home country, Greece, the Drama International Short Film Festival and the AegeanFF, where she is also supporting fundraising and development. For the last couple of years, she has been organising and hosting Q&As at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival while also voting for the British Independent Film Awards in the category of shorts. With her curatorial and filmmaking work she focuses on themes of sexuality, intimacy and representation of eroticism in film. She has programmed for curatorial platforms like Tape Collective and the BFI Film Academy while also organised physical exhibitions in various art spaces in the UK.
