The Courtisane Festival presents three film programmes curated by Film Curating Studies students from the 2022-2023 Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola class. This inter-institutional collaboration between the Belgian festival and the school results from a proposal by Courtisane itself, which, among other initiatives, aims to incorporate new perspectives into its discourse result of an internal process of reflection on the work of film curatorship.

Sara Domínguez López (Madrid, 1999) is responsible for “There Is Nothing To Celebrate, My House Is Empty”, a program that invites viewers to become active participants in the course of the complex history of two nations like Mexico and Peru through the work of the Los Ingrávidos Collective and the Silencio Collective.

Shameless Memories from Latin America” is the title of the cuir/queer double program curated by Alejo Duclós (Buenos Aires, 1998). The first part of the program brings together the work of a group of contemporary filmmakers from Colombia and Mexico who explore their link with the ancestry and mythology of their territory. The second is made up of a selection of recently recovered Brazilian short films from the 1980s.

Lastly, “What Is Irony, If Not Melancholy?”, the program curated by Mireia Montané (Barcelona, 1998), revolves around the intervention of the ironic gesture in cinematographic language. The program relies on works by Daniela Delgado Viteri and Jorge Jácome to reflect on the need to belong to a place and coexist with nostalgia.

The 23rd edition of the Courtisane Festival will be held in Ghent (Belgium), from March 27 to 31.
