Les Maîtres fous (Jean Rouch, 1955, 28 min.)

Les Maitres Fous deals with the ritual ceremonies of the Hauka sect present throughout West Africa between the 1920s and 1950s. In 1954 Jean Rouch recorded the annual ritual of a small group of practitioners in Accra. During the ceremony, held on a farm a few hours' drive from the city, the Hauka go into a trance and are possessed by different spirits associated with Western colonial powers.

For the Andean people, there is no separation between the self and the world, and this separation is responsible for the anguish of Westerners. A reflective poetic vision of three festivities in the Peruvian Andes.
