Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola is a collective project involving a range of very different institutions, centres and companies: the organisations that run it; the Basque film industry that supports it from within the region; and a broader network that helps inform the training, research and filmmaking carried out at the school.
The EQZE is a public initiative promoted and funded by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council's Department of Culture.
The design and nature of the school is the result of a blending of the three bodies involved in its initial conception: the Basque Film Archive, the San Sebastián International Film Festival and the Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture.
In 2019, EQZE’s lifelong learning Master’s degrees were officially recognised as degrees conferred by the University of the Basque Country (EHU).
Elías Querejeta Film School is also a member of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF).
Basque film network
Some of the activities and programmes run at the school benefit from the collaboration and support of local stakeholders.
Partner centres for work placement programmes
EQZE has established a network of national and international centres which, alongside the institutions that make up the school, offer students work placements and professional training internships.
Research map
The school’s research projects are carried out in collaboration with international archives, universities and research centres. This network is complemented by ties with archives, film libraries, festivals and cultural centres from a range of different countries, all established through students’ research projects.
Production resources
Access to equipment, materials and technical services for teaching and production is made possible thanks to the collaboration of leading companies in the sector.
Scholarships and support for study programmes
Programmes, scholarships and activities are financially supported by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council’s Department of Culture (Kinofabrika scholarships and scholarships for Basque students) and Talent House.
