michael labarca valera (2023-2024)

Graduate in Audiovisual Media from the Universidad de Los Andes (Venezuela); he also studied staging and directing actors at EICTV and graduated from the Film Program at Di Tella (2022), where he made several short films (currently in post-production). His short film La culpa, probablemente (2016), won Third Place at La Cinéfondation de Cannes. His next short film El hombre de cartón (2017), was selected at festivals in Montreal, Biarritz, ZINEBI, Huesca, PÖFF, and Cairo. He is currently developing his first feature film Muchachos bañándose en el lago, which received the Fundación Carolina scholarship for the IBERMEDIA Project Development Course in 2020; in 2022, he won the Open Doors Award at the Locarno Festival and is a beneficiary of Cinémas du Monde. His work often explores austerity in staging, the absence of light, the child's gaze, and the effects of migration
