Victoria Irene Barco

Comisariado

I was born and raised in Patagonia, in southern Argentina. I trained in film and audiovisual media and developed (first as a self-taught artist and later in workshops) a close connection with documentary photography.

During my time in various academic and alternative spaces, and in the intersection between different kinds of political activism in my region, the relationship between fiction and non-fiction, information technologies, art, and narrative journalism, I became fascinated by the world of archives.

I am currently working on projects focusing on archival documents produced by security forces. These projects question the historical and poetic construction of collective memories, centring on the state and social control, recording media and discursive criminalisation, resistance and its ability to give existence to the invisible. All these projects combine performance, archives and visual and audiovisual technological devices.
