Javier Esteban Navarro

Comisariado

In 2019, Javier Esteban Navarro began studying for a Diploma in Directing at the Madrid Film Institute but later realised that his vocation did not quite fit with the focus of that programme. The following year, seeking a perspective more aligned with his interests, he enrolled in Documentary and New Film Forms at the same school. It was there that he came into contact with various different film movements and began to develop a growing interest in programming and aesthetics. In 2021, he founded the film club ‘Yo no sé, mira’ in a bookstore in the town where he spent his childhood. In said club, he was responsible for selecting and sharing films and shorts that were looking for an alternative to the industrial circuit, creating a space for people to meet and think about cinema. At the same time, he worked as an assistant editor on the series El circo de los muchachos by Elías León Siminiani. In 2023, resuming his interest in aesthetics and cultural theory, he enrolled in a micro-degree programme in History, Culture and Thought in the 20th Century, run by UNED, thereby broadening his perspective on the relationships between art, society and contemporary thought.
