Born in Gernika-Lumo in 1999, after graduating in 2021 as a violinist from Musikene, the Advanced Music Centre of the Basque Country (CSMPV), and completing a postgraduate degree at the same centre in 2022, Joanes Rubio Arzanegi decided to study at the Basque Film School (ECPV), specialising in Film Direction. He earned his diploma in 2025 and during his time at the school, directed several short films in which he explored different working methods, including improvisation with actors without a script, the use of intentional silences and experimental works based on manipulated photographs. His film research interests include the relationship between image and emptiness and their meanings in contemporary cinema, and the search for absolute silences as a way of attaching new meaning to words, memory and identity.
