Hypothesis 2025 (Third day)

"The Time of Hypotheses" is the event in which the Master's students of the three specialties of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola —Film Archive Studies, Film Curating Studies and Filmmaking Studies— exhibit the works they have developed throughout the course.  

These proposals, projects (mostly incomplete and ongoing), take diverse forms: plans and actions for the restoration and preservation of audiovisual heritage, research projects, editorial and film programming proposals, exhibitions and installations, films in development, as well as all the works completed throughout the course.

This program approaches cinema from all fields and prefigures dozens of paths, ranging from the academic to the creative, to explore the geography and history of cinema. All the paths of cinema in two weeks.

El cielo enterrado

PRESERVATION PROJECT

‘El cielo enterrado’ is a project focused on preserving the audiovisual work of filmmaker Manuel Martínez. The starting point for these preservation efforts is the short documentary film of the same name, which, from a technical and material production perspective, is a hybrid film.

Winter in the city. A young woman works as an angel in a shopping centre. Although her presence is intended to encourage visitors to spend more money on their Christmas shopping, the angel finds her own way to overcome the monotony.

All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace

A film about my father and the technology industry in San Francisco, where he began working in the early 1970s. It explores the future world of humans and machines that he envisioned back then, and the world he experiences now as his cognitive abilities begin to deteriorate.

La herencia maldita

PRESERVATION PROJECT

The only 8 mm copy of La herencia maldita, a home movie made in 1953, is in such a critical state that it can no longer be viewed. This project aims to combat this inevitable destruction by seeking an alternative solution for preserving the images stored on this medium.

La metamorfosis de lo mismo

PELÍCULA

The spirit of naturalist Claudio Gay takes over the body of filmmaker Ignacio Agüero and embarks on an expedition through Chile in search of a mysterious plant that he failed to catalogue. Following the same route Gay took in 1830, Agüero travels to a lagoon that no longer exists and the peaks of the Andes, encountering a colourful repertoire of characters and legends. Finally, he travels to Robinson Crusoe Island, which may be the last place this endemic plant can be found.

A research, restitution and restoration project focusing on the activities and films of the international militant film group Colectivo C3M - Cinema del Terzo Mondo: Palestina, otro Vietnam and Bolivia: El tiempo de los generales, made between 1971 and 1972.

Projection of the digitization of the film Bolivia: El tiempo de los generales (Colectivo C3M - Cinema del Terzo Mondo / Jorge Denti, Jorge Giannoni, Manuela Generali, and Beppe Scavuzzo; 1972).
