Macarena Fernández Puig has a degree in Social Communication from the Catholic University of Uruguay, and over the past ten years has been involved in the conservation and research of audiovisual archive material and film heritage in diverse formats. She is currently an assistant at the Prof. Dina Pintos Audiovisual Archives at the Catholic University of Uruguay. During 2017 and 2018 she formed part of the team responsible for the digitisation of the audiovisual archives of the Uruguayan singer-songwriter Alfredo Zitarrosa at the Audiovisual Conservation Laboratory belonging to the Department of Historical Research at the University of the Republic of Uruguay's General Archives. She has also been a member of the group Cine Casero since its creation in 2014. The primary aim of this group is to disseminate best practices for the conservation of home movies among the general public, with a view to ensuring that personal and family archives remain available to future generations and are used in other areas such as the recovery of historical memory and artistic creation. Currently, the group is involved in the project 'El Gran Film del Uruguay', which aims to review 45 nitrate film cans from the ANIP-SODRE Carlos Alonso Collection.
