Simon Petri Lukacs

Simon Petri Lukacs (2020-2021)

Born in 1995, in Budapest, Hungary, Simon started to study film theory in 2015. With vast enthusiasm, he discovered the world of film curatorship early during his studies and moved to Vienna to learn more about this praxis in the Österreichisches Filmmuseum and at the Viennale. Having been irreversibly liberated from both the dry scholarliness and primitivism of everyday film criticism that jointly dominated Hungary, he finally found the terms and examples to put into words his approach to programming, selection and curatorship. When coming back to Budapest, he started to organize screenings and held lectures in art galleries, projecting films that have not reached Hungary before. In 2019, he organized the first ever film series of the Jewish Museum of Budapest. A year-long series, it takes a comprehensive look at stereotypes associated with Jews, through a diverse selection of films.
