Leonor Guerra (C08 (2025-2026))

Leonor Guerra (b. 1990, Lisbon) has been working since 2019 as a fi lm preservation technician at the Photochemical Preservation Laboratory at the National Archive of Moving Images (ANIM) - Cinemateca Portuguesa. She graduated in Photography and Visual Culture (IADE) and holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Visual Arts from NOVA University Lisbon, where her thesis focused on the experimental practice and films of the French biologist and filmmaker Jean Painlevé (1902-1989). His innovative and subversive approach to film language, combining scientific inquiry with cinematic artistry, sparked a deep fascination with the materiality of film. This passion for the tangible qualities of analogue filmmaking naturally led her to pursue a career in film preservation, where she combines technical expertise with an ongoing creative curiosity for the medium.

Her artistic practice spans the intersections of photography, cinema, and artists' film, with a focus on research and experimentation within the language of the analogue medium. For her, the process of making images is deeply intertwined with ongoing exploration and experimentation— both artistic and technical— which fuels her research.
