Javier Rodríguez Fernández

Comisariado

My name is Javier Rodríguez Fernández, and I was born in Burela, Lugo, on 2 March 1996. I have always felt deeply attracted to cinema, not only as a form of entertainment, but also as a means of expressing ideas and transforming realities. My first forays into the world of work were marked by humble jobs that afforded me direct insight into the diversity of our society and strengthened my conviction that film should be accessible to all.
Over time, I gathered the necessary resources to apply to the Young Programmers Programme at the Cineteca de Madrid (CineZeta), where I had some very enriching experiences. I had the privilege of managing the Spanish première of We're All Going to the World's Fair, and was one of the first people to programme Lawrence Lek in our country. I also organised thematic film seasons on ecology, feminism and digital cinema, in collaboration with various associations. Furthermore, sitting on the youth jury at DocumentaMadrid enabled me to broaden my perspective on and commitment to cinema.

Recognising the importance of supporting my experience with academic training, the following year I enrolled in a degree in Art History at the Complutense University and later decided to further my knowledge by completing a Master's degree in Film Criticism at the ECAM. These stages in my career have been vital to enriching my vision and bringing me even closer to the cultural world.

Currently, I write reviews for online magazines and organise screenings and activities at events like DocumentaMadrid, where I will soon collaborate in a children's workshop on archival cinema. What motivates me most is creating spaces in which those who feel marginalised from the cultural circuit can enjoy, learn and share experiences. I aspire to developing inclusive curatorial proposals that serve as loudspeakers for authentic and alternative discourses and contribute to a true democratisation of cinema.

The postgraduate course in Film Curating Studies at the EQZE represents a unique opportunity for me to continue growing, deepening my vision and doing my bit to contribute to a constantly evolving field.
