Estrany Riu, the debut feature by Jaume Claret Muxart—a student from the first graduating class of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola—has secured two Goya Award nominations. The film will compete for Best New Director and Best New Actor (Jan Montaner Paulau), as announced this afternoon by the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.

This announcement follows the news last December that the feature film, developed at EQZE, earned eight nominations for the Gaudí Awards from the Catalan Film Academy. In this competition, the film is a contender in major categories including Best Film, Best New Director, and Best Cinematography, among others. Furthermore, Claret is also nominated for Best Short Film for La nostra habitació, which has been named one of the four finalists in its category.

The Gaudí Awards ceremony will take place in Barcelona on February 8th; twenty days later, also in Barcelona, the Goya Awards will be presented.
