Balizko film baten bila

In this workshop, promoted by the Tabakalera audiovisual laboratory and Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, 10 participants will create a collective work with Harkaitz Cano. In addition, with the help of different guests, they will tackle various topics that form part of the creative processes: image rights, cinematographic references, types of narrative or the editing of archives, among others.

Clothes and sheets hanging out are one of those everyday scenes we are used to seeing in our lives and the cinema. But what is the function of those white shirts and sheets exposed to the air? What does Sophia Loren think as she lays out the mended rags in Una Giornata particolare, and are these scenes strong enough to become icons of the secret grammar of celluloid?

As Erri de Luca tells us in one of his books, when traveling projectors first arrived in the small villages of Italy - without them yet knowing that this new art form, which was taking its first steps, was called 'cinema' - the common people called this fascinating invention 'The mess on the sheet' (L'imbroglio nel lenzuolo), a definition that fitted perfectly, since what is cinema if not a mess on a white sheet. This definition fits perfectly: What is cinema, if not a mess on a white cloth?

In this workshop, we will analyze the protagonism that clothes and sheets have had in films of all periods and styles, trying to organize this borrowed material and look for a narrative logic. What will be the result? A visual poem? A documentary? An audiovisual installation? We will make our way to find out.
