AZTARNAK: The Bewilderment of Chile (Lucia Seles, 2025)

A man walks alone through La Plata. He is lost; he has lost his bearings. No one seems to show him the way back, and it’s not even clear what he’d be going back to. In Seles’s signature style, where English and Spanish merge into a third language, the film drifts through different scenes of life in La Plata, including that of the family who own the Ritz confiterías, led by the legendary García Pelayo brothers. The film’s romantic gaze and enduring fondness for buses and confiterías weave a story of love and companionship holding out in the midst of an industrialised, ever-changing city.
