Marga Almirall (2023-2024)

Marga Almirall has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the UAB, a postgraduate degree in Audiovisual Editing from the UPF, has studied at the Feminist Documentary Laboratory in La Bonne and has completed courses in film theory, criticism and practice. Since 2016, she has been co-director of content at the audiovisual resource promotion cooperative Drac Màgic, where she works in the audiovisual language education project ‘Construir Mirades’, as well as with the children’s film distributor Pack Màgic and the International Women’s Film Exhibition in Barcelona, among others. As a filmmaker, she has mainly focused on appropriation editing, making a video essay entitled Estimada (vida) diària (2016), and co-directing alongside Marta Nieto the films La carcajada de la medusa (2018) and De un cuerpo a esta parte (2019). She directed the short film Elena Universo (2018), which has been selected at many national and international festivals and which received a special mention from the jury at the Alcances Documentary Film Festival. Her latest short film, entitled Lo que aún nos baila (2021), received the support of the Short Film in Progress Award at the Manlleu Festival and was selected for the ShortCat 2022 programme by Catalan Films. She has just finished Somorrostro en tres actos, an audiovisual piece made for the ‘Sinfonías de la ciudad’ project produced by the CCCB and Dones Visuals. Her work as a filmmaker explores the construction of first person narratives and role of images in the construction of memory. She has worked with images from family archives and personal diaries, as well as in the field of found footage editing. Her work is based on collage and the combination of different materials to build essay and experimental pieces rooted in a conception of film as something inseparable from life.
