Arrate has a Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country (1998-2002). She spent part of her professional career in Brussels (Belgium) as part of the Creative Europe programme, working in the field of film distribution and the production of art house documentaries (Gsara asbl). In 2014 she returned to the Basque Country to join the Donostia 2016 European Capital of Culture project, where she directed several multidisciplinary cultural projects. She has also worked in a number of different film festivals, including the Festival de Cinémas d’Espagne et L’Amérique latine (Brussels), Filmer à tout Prix (Brussels) and Zinebi (Bilbao). Since 2018, she has worked as the academic coordinator at the Elías Querejeta Film School.
