Marcela Hinojosa was born in Mexico City and earned a degree in Visual Arts from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She has coordinated production and screenings at several film festivals, including the Gira de Documentales Ambulante (Travelling Documentary Tour), the Morelia International Film Festival, the International Human Rights Film Festival and ES.CINE. Alongside her work in festivals, she also founded Calamari, a production firm which developed cultural videos from 2006 to 2011. She was an intern at FONCA (National Young Creators’ Fund for Culture and the Arts) from 2007-2008, working in the video department on the creation of a video-art project. She has attended seminars and workshops on curating and film at the San Carlos Academy, the Cinematographic Training Centre, Ro75 and SOGEM, among others. She has also collaborated with the production companies Río Negro and Río Escondido; working in the latter as first assistant director in the documentary Un retrato de Diego, directed by Gabriel Figueroa and Diego López Rivera in 2006.
