Lorena Patricia García Espino (2022-2023)

She holds a BA in Audiovisual Communication from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and has also studied new media at the University of Texas at Austin. Her filmmaking projects explore transfictions, video art, virtual reality and expanded film, and her work has been screened at festivals in Peru and elsewhere. In the cultural sector, her work focuses on training audiences through film management and curatorship. She participated as a programmer in Mi Primer Festival (Peru), Festival Hecho Por Mujeres (Peru), Festival Ojo de Pescado (Chile), EmpoderArte (Peru) and Sala Robles Godoy at the Ministry of Culture (Peru). She is also an educator for young people in vulnerable situations on the ‘Wayna’ and ‘Imilla’ projects for social transformation through film and new media, working at the Maranguita and Santa Margarita diagnostic and juvenile rehabilitation centres and with youth organisations in local settlements. She has received awards from the Ministry of Culture, the U.S. Embassy and the Special Peruvian Independence Bicentennial Project for her cultural management projects and festivals. She was a founder of the Hermanas Mirabal production company, which promotes participatory and gender-focused cinema made by women and dissident groups. She is also a co-founder of the production company AmiXR, the first Peruvian company making and researching extended realities and generative art, developing augmented reality, virtual reality, Gangs, hacktivism and other explorations linked to new technologies.
