Saioa Miguel


Saioa Miguel is a visual artist, script writer and cultural researcher whose projects focus specifically on the direction and production of fictional and non-fiction audiovisual works. She was awarded a scholarship to study Film Directing at the Madrid School of Art (TAI), an experience that opened a window for her onto the world of film. She did her graduation project for a Master’s in Documentary and Experimental Film Directing previously at the Bilbao Filmmakers’ School (ECCBI). She has always been interested in film and art, and has been taking photographs in 335mm and making analogue collages for many years now. Her works have been exhibited in many different galleries, including the Ginsburg in Madrid, and she has been named ‘Basque collage artist’ for several years now by the Gau Irekia Festival. During her time in Madrid, in addition to studying Film Directing, she also completed a course at LAV: Laboratorio AudioVisual called ‘I film therefore I am’. She also completed a course in 16mm, during which she created a work that was later exhibited at Cruce de Arte y Pensamiento - ‘The Body’. That same year, she was awarded a scholarship to do a Master’s degree in Cultural Project Management at the Contemporary Art Foundation (La Fábrica). Her graduation project (on which she is currently working) is a documentary based on the Círculo de Bellas Artes archive. She is currently studying an undergraduate degree in Philosophy at the UNED (Spanish National Distance Learning University), while working at the same time in the audiovisual industry and in the field of cultural project management. She has also worked as a distributor at Cines Renoir and as an organiser at the NoTodoFilmFest.
