Laura Dávila Argoty (2024-2025)

Filmmaker and researcher with a degree in Social Communication, specialising in Audiovisual Production, from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, and in Cinema and Audiovisual Arts from the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris - 3, where she also did a Master’s in Film and Audiovisual Studies. Her research project addresses the work of contemporary Latin American women filmmakers and their relationship with issues concerning colonisation and ecology through the prism of experimental film. Her film practice is centred on using analogue devices and working with archives and experimental ethnography.

She was a member of the student judging panel for the European University Film Award (EUFA), (Germany, 2021). She has participated in the Critic(al)/Creation Residency Doc’s Kingdom programme (Portugal, 2021), the Doclisboa filmmaking seminar (Portugal, 2021) and the ‘El cine en común’ writing workshops at the Pompidou Museum (France, 2021). In 2022 she did an internship at Light Cone (Paris), an association for the distribution of experimental film, where she was responsible for the inspection of analogue copies. Also in 2022, she received funding from the Film Development Fund in Colombia as producer and director of the short film Cuando ellas se fueron sólo quedó un pequeño ruido en la montaña. Since 2023 she has directed ‘Ermitañas. Muestra Itinerante de Cine Hecho Por Mujeres’ (Hermitesses. Travelling Exhibition of Films Made by Women) in San Juan de Pasto (Colombia). She has published in different film-related media such as La Rabia, Cero en conducta, Celuloide Latino and Nexus.
