Opening of the registration period for the 2026-2027 Academic Year

Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. The application period is from 1 to 28 February and all applications must be submitted through the form available on the school’s website. The website also outlines the admission requirements, required documents and the application process timeline.

Applications will be assessed by the school’s Admissions Committee and Academic Management Team in a process that runs parallel to the applications period. This means that available places—limited to a maximum of fifteen students per specialist course (Film Preservation, Film Curating and Filmmaking)—may be filled before the closing date.

The results of the application process and the list of admitted students will be published during the first week of June.

Three Master’s degree courses

Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola aims to provide filmmakers with broad, cross-cutting training, helping them become professionals capable of engaging with the cinema of the past (archive and preservation), the cinema of the present (curating and programming) and the cinema of the future (filmmaking). This comprehensive approach is embodied in three Master's programmes:

  • The Master’s Degree in Film Preservation Studies aims to train specialists in identifying, classifying, restoring and preserving film and audiovisual heritage, while also proposing this field as an area of artistic creation.

EQZE’s academic programme is aimed at university graduates (with a Bachelor's or undergraduate degree), students currently pursuing their degree and film school graduates.  In exceptional cases, the school will consider applications from those who, while not meeting the prerequisites, can nevertheless demonstrate experience working with film or other assessable merits.

Scholarships and study grants

Three students residing in Gipuzkoa will be eligible for the Provincial Council's Department of Culture EQZE scholarships for enrollment in one of the school's postgraduate courses, consisting of a €2,500 grant. The terms and conditions will be made public in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, the TSH Talent Foundation will offer two ten-month housing scholarships (from September 2026 to June 2027) at The Social Hub Donostia residence. This non-profit organization manages training programs for students in vulnerable situations, aiming to facilitate their access to higher education and professional development.

Information session

To address doubts about the admission process, an online information session open to all interested parties will be held on 10 February at 16:00 (CET).

Created and funded by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council and formally part of the University of the Basque Country (EHU), Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola offers an educational experience based on the specialist knowledge areas of the three institutions involved in its running:  the Basque Film Library, the Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture and the San Sebastián International Film Festival.
