High River selected for the Kimuak 2026 catalogue
Daniel Alegrete's short film is one of the seven selected for the 29th edition of the Basque short-film promotion programme. High River is a fiction set in a gay club in Bilbao during the August 1983 floods.

High River, a short film by Daniel Alegrete (a student in Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola's 2024-2025 cohort), has been selected for the Kimuak 2026 catalogue. The jury reviewed the 59 entries submitted to the programme's 29th edition, with seven short films ultimately making up the catalogue, Alegrete's work among them.
High River is a fiction set in the High, a gay club in Bilbao, during the catastrophic floods of August 1983. The short film grew out of the development process of High, Alegrete's feature film in preparation, and this year it took part in the Short Film Corner at the Festival de Cannes within the ICAA's 2cool4school programme.
KIMUAK is run through Etxepare Euskal Institutua and Zineuskadi, and its purpose is to promote and disseminate Basque short films. This selection will be submitted to the most important film festivals and audiovisual initiatives worldwide.
