Screening

"The Time of Hypotheses" is the event in which the Master's students of the three specialties of Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola —Film Archive Studies, Film Curating Studies and Filmmaking Studies— exhibit the works they have developed throughout the course.

These proposals, projects (mostly incomplete and ongoing), take diverse forms: plans and actions for the restoration and preservation of audiovisual heritage, research projects, editorial and film programming proposals, exhibitions and installations, films in development, as well as all the works completed throughout the course.

This program approaches cinema from all fields and prefigures dozens of paths, ranging from the academic to the creative, to explore the geography and history of cinema. All the paths of cinema in two weeks.

FILM

On a strange night in the centre of São Paulo, Areta, a 70-year-old woman, loses her house keys. While searching for a 24-hour locksmith, she is drawn into a labyrinth of absurd encounters with marginal, somewhat surreal, figures.

15:00-16:30

PROJECTION

Descomedidos y chascones (Carlos Flores Delpino, Chile, 1963, 65 min.)

This experimental Chilean documentary, set during the Salvador Allende administration and the Unidad Popular Party’s rule, paints a portrait of Chilean youth in the early 1970s. To do so, the film blends interviews with people from diverse social backgrounds with satirical collage sequences. Unlike the political films of the era, this work consciously seeks to distance itself from indoctrinating unrest, constructing a portrait that places the voice of young people centre-stage.  The film was one of the objects of study in the ‘Segunda mano’ research project carried out during the 2024-2025 academic year. The research project included an interview with the film’s director, Carlos Flores Delpino, which we will also share following this screening.

17:00-18:00

PROYECCIÓN

Evidentemente Manuel Marzel

Manuel Marzel's work burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s with a transgressive outlook that pushed the boundaries of what was then understood as ‘amateur’ or independent cinema in Cuba. His first short film, A Norman McLaren (Cuba, 1990, 12 min), which won the Mikeldi de Oro award at the 34th edition of ZINEBI (1992), broke away from established paradigms. With humour, irreverence and a deep sense of formal risk, Marzel explored animation, collage and found footage to question established notions of reality, identity and cultural resistance, in a society immersed in a deep-rooted crisis of faith. In addition to A Norman McLaren, the session will also feature Evidentemente comieron chocolate suizo (Cuba, 1991, 12 min). This screening forms part of the ‘Los subterráneos’ project by Archivistas Salvajes and has been organised in collaboration with the ‘ZINEBI Deposit ’ research project.

All presentations, screenings, and other activities will begin at the time indicated in the program. We kindly request maximum punctuality.
