¡ODOYÁ IS NOT HERE! (Ana Júlia Silvino, 2024)
On the sand of the beach, the pulse of life is an uncertain movement, like the solitary flight of the seagulls, always accompanied by the cold breeze of the wind that arrives and collides with the body. Water invades a piece of land and the eroded rocks. The reflection of a gray and vertiginous sky appears glued to the waves. From this point, the Bay of La Concha can be seen in the distance. At this time of the year the boats hardly arrive.
It is true that people are used to looking from the opposite direction. Between both points of view extends a considerable portion of the deep ocean and there is something in it that, in this territory, they choose not to name. This presence, which they never seek because it has no material utility, has a silent cry and is different from everything human.
Aiming to create blurs in the temporal cycle of matter, the sound installation points to a phantasmagoria that rises above the word and shows itself in the flesh, in an attempt to give body to real and imaginary myths. Through overlapping loops and waves of distortion mixed with an active listening exercise performed on Santa Clara Island during the winter, ODOYÁ IS NOT HERE! is a speculative fiction about what is not seen and about the immigrant body that perceives it. A refuge, beyond what is understood as paradise.
* The presentation of ODOYÁ IS NOT HERE! will take place on April 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Plaza space (Tabakalera).
A desert island is a programme organised by EQZE's students of Film Curating Studies (2023-2024 Academic Year).
