Javier Codesal is a visual artist, filmmaker and poet. His projects include videos, photographs, physical installations, drawings and texts that follow various closely interrelated lines. His work has been exhibited at numerous public and private institutions such as MUSAC, MACBA, Virreina Centre de la Imatge, MNCARS, and the Estrany-de la Mota and Casa Sin Fin galleries, among others. His film work has been screened at Filmoteca de Galicia and El Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. He has curated exhibitions, the most recent one being about filmmaker Pedro Costa. His latest books include Canción de Pedro Costa (La Virreina and Joaquín Gallego Editor, 2022) and Retrato y otro (Libros de la Resistencia, 2021). Commissioned by Filmoteca de Andalucía, between 1993 and 1996 he was in charge of the reconstruction and completion of the film Acariño Galaico, by José Val del Omar. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Imaging Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, was a lecturer at the Universidad Europea de Madrid and currently lectures at the University of Salamanca.
