Andreas Fontana (Geneva, 1982) has a degree in Comparative Literature. In 2007, he moved to Buenos Aires where he worked as an interpreter and translator. In 2010, he earned a Master’s Degree in Film Directing at the ECAL (Lausanne) and HEAD (Geneva). In 2010, his first short film, Cotonov Vanished (2009), won the First Steps Award at the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon, as well as the prize for the best short film at the Festival dei Popoli, in Florence. In 2016, his short film Pedro M, 1981 (2015) was short-listed for the Swiss Film Award in the Best Short Film category. In 2021, Azor, his first feature film, was screened at the 71st Berlinale, in the ‘Encounters’ section. Andreas Fontana has taught at the Vevey School of Photography (CEPV) and has given masterclasses at the Elias Querejeta Film School (EQZE), the University Film Foundation (FUC) and ECAL. He has been on the teaching staff at HEAD since 2022.
