Rey Muerto (Lucrecia Martel, 1995)
In Rey Muerto, everyone is having an afternoon nap when Juana leaves home with her children and bags in tow. The windows open. Juana flees. Someone warns her husband. Juana is carrying a gun. In the filmmaker’s own words: ‘it was almost a Western, like the ones I used to make when I was a girl, but a bit better and with a bit more knowledge, made from what we could get hold of, trying to turn this experience into a film school.
Biography
Lucrecia Martel (Salta, 1966) studied in Buenos Aires at the National School of Cinematographic Experimentation and Filmmaking. In 2001, she premièred her first feature film, La ciénaga, which became the icon of ‘new Argentinian film’. Her debut work won prizes at the Berlin, Havana and Toulouse International Film Festivals. In 2004 she premièred La niña santa, with which she participated for the first time at Cannes, and in 2008, she brought out La mujer sin cabeza, which was also nominated for a prize at the same festival. Her latest feature film, Zama (2017) premiered at the Venice Biennale.

Familia Sumergida (María Alché, 2018)
It is summer in the city of Buenos Aires. Following the death of her sister Rina, Marcela tries to cope with her grief while tackling the task of emptying out the family home. Then Nacho, one of her daughter's young friends, arrives at her house and his presence gives rise to a series of shared travels and adventures. One day, Marcela receives a call from a distant relation who wants to meet her, while at home, she holds conversations with relatives from another dimension.
Biography
María Alché (Buenos Aires, 1983) is a director, scriptwriter and actress who studied film direction at the National School of Filmmaking and Experimentation (ENERC). As an actress, her best-known role was in La niña santa, by Lucrecia Martel. She wrote and directed the feature film Familia sumergida, which stared Mercedes Morán and premièred in 2018 at the Locarno International Film Festival. It was also invited to participate in the San Sebastian International Film Festival, where it won the Horizontes Latinos Prize for Best Film. In 2023, she premièred Puan, alongside Benjamín Naishtat, at the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it won prizes for Best Script and Best Performance. She is currently developing a film called Te amo y hoy todo es hermoso.
