Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola is a school offering postgraduate studies in a context of interpersonal commitment and total immersion in cinema.

The academic programme is aimed at students who hold or are in the process of obtaining a higher university qualification (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent), as well as graduates from film schools. Exceptionally, the School will evaluate specific cases of candidates who can demonstrate professional experience in the field of film or other verifiable merits.

Admission is subject to availability, with a limit of 15 places per specialisation.

1. Inscription

The registration period for the 2026-2027 academic year will run from 1 February (00:00 CET) to 28 February (23:59 CET).

Applications may only be submitted through the designated online platform (see the non-editable form to the right).

The tuition fee for the 2026-2027 Academic Year is 5,200 euros (pending confirmation).

Registration can only be done through the platform enabled for that purpose (see non-editable form on the right).

To apply for a place at the school, please proceed as follows:

1. In addition to providing all their personal and academic details, candidates should indicate which specialist course they wish to apply for in order of preference. The Admissions Board will consider this information but reserves the right to invite candidates to join a specialist course that may not coincide with their first choice.

It is recommended that the data be checked, especially the contact methods (email and telephone number).

2. Candidates should submit the following documents along with the application form:

  1. Copy of ID card, NIE or passport
  2. Brief biography (see examples).
  3. Curriculum vitae.
  4. Degree certificate and/or academic transcripts.
  5. Motivational letter.
  6. Portfolio (optional). In the case of audiovisual files, the accepted format for reception is the link.
  7. A report outlining the project they wish to develop during the course. All formats and project types are admissible (see projects developed in EQZE).

It is recommended to check that the files or links in the documentation are operative.

Letters of recommendation are not accepted.

Documentation sent after the formalization of the application will not be accepted.

The intake for each specialist course is limited to 15 students.

Applicants can check the status of their application via the tracking link provided at the end of the registration process. This link will remain active until the end of the admission process.

2. Admission

The applications received during the application period  will be assessed by the Admissions Committee and the school's Academic Board.

Following an initial assessment of applications, candidates may be called for an interview (either face-to-face or online).

The center will notify the candidates of the response to their application, which could be admission, waiting list or non-admission, and the itinerary they are invited to join. This notification will take place during the first week of June.

Candidates assigned to the waiting list must confirm their wish to remain on said list. It is possible that the status of their application may not be resolved until the end of August, once the selection process has been definitively completed.

EQZE reserves the right to notify applicants of the status of their application at any moment during the process. All communications shall be carried out using the email provided on the application form.

Depending on the development of the process, EQZE could extend the admission period.

After the admission communication, applicants will have five days to confirm their acceptance of the place proposed by the center.

Once acceptance has been confirmed, these applicants will receive all the necessary information about the documentation to be provided, and the deadlines and methods of payment for the formalization and payment of the registration fee.

Admission to EQZE will only be effective once the reservation deposit (20% of the registration fee) has been paid within the indicated period.

In the event that any of the selected candidates should withdraw after paying the reservation fee, she/he will not be able to recover the amount paid.

Candidates placed on the waiting list must confirm their wish to remain on it. The final outcome of their application may be determined as late as the end of August, once the full selection process has concluded.

Admission to EQZE will be finalized only after the reservation fee (20% of the tuition fee) is paid within one week of accepting the offer.

This amount is non-refundable, but it will be deducted from the final tuition price.

3. Registration

Following the 20% reservation fee and once enrollment is finalized, each student must pay the remaining 80%. This payment can be made in one of two ways:

  • Single payment: 80% to be paid between September 1 and September 11, 2026.
  • Installments:
    • First installment: 40% to be paid between September 1 and September 11, 2026.
    • Second installment: 40% to be paid between December 1 and December 11, 2026.

All payments must be made via bank transfer.

During the pre-enrollment phase, selected students must submit the following documentation:

  • Scanned copy of the diploma providing access to the Master’s or University Extension Diploma.
  • UPV/EHU E-5 Form: Only for students with degrees from countries outside the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) whose degrees have not been officially recognized (homologated). A scanned copy of the degree and academic transcript must be attached.
  • UPV/EHU Annex II: Only for students without an undergraduate or bachelor's degree. Documentation providing university access (e.g., High School Diploma/Bachiller) and proof of professional experience must be attached. In this case, it is also necessary to include a "Vida Laboral" (Work History) document issued by the Social Security office.
  • A recent passport-sized photo in JPEG format.

During the enrollment phase, selected students must submit the following documentation:

SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES

APPLICATION PERIOD

Can I apply before completing my current studies?

Yes. If a candidate applies in the final year of their degree and does not yet hold their qualification at the start of the EQZE academic year, they must submit their academic transcript along with the rest of the required documentation.

What should the project proposal dossier contain?

All applicants wishing to join the School must include, with their application, a dossier describing the project or projects they intend to develop during their time at EQZE.

The document should provide a detailed description of the project, specify its current stage of development, and include any additional information the candidate considers relevant for evaluating the artistic proposal — for instance, texts, images, sketches, references, a screenplay, or a moodboard.

Both written dossiers and alternative presentation formats are accepted. The length and format of this document are open, and it may be submitted in Spanish, Basque, or English.

ACADEMIC YEAR

How long does the course last?

The EQZE Master’s degrees span from mid-September 2026 through December 2027. The academic year is organised around six modules of varying duration. The first five modules (September-July) are teaching modules and are conducted face-to-face. The sixth (August-December) is a mixed module (teaching and end-of-course assignment) and is semi face-to-face. Finally, the review period, thesis assessment and extracurricular internships take place between January and June 2028.

The programme comprises 60 ECTS credits and is delivered on a full-time, in-person basis.

In what languages are the classes taught?

Approximately 75% of EQZE’s academic content and activities (courses, seminars, meetings, etc.) are conducted in Spanish. The rest of the teaching is preferably conducted in English.

The working language of tutorials and mentoring may be Basque, Spanish or English, depending on the assigned tutor. The final project defence, as well as prior presentations, may be carried out in any of these three languages.

Although the School does not require official language certificates or conduct language proficiency tests, applicants are recommended to have a solid knowledge of both Spanish and English. This aspect will be taken into account during the selection process.

What level of commitment is expected from EQZE students?

It is difficult to establish precise guidelines, but the programme is demanding. Classes may be scheduled in either the morning or afternoon and, in some cases, may take up the whole day. In addition to class hours, students are expected to dedicate time to developing their personal projects, participating in research initiatives, completing internships, and engaging in activities conducted by the School’s partner institutions.

Can the project submitted during the registration period be changed later in the course?

Yes. Students have the flexibility to modify their initial project, in consultation with and with their tutor's approval.

Are classes held in person or online?

Except for occasional exceptions, all academic activity at EQZE takes place in person.

Is class attendance compulsory?

Yes, regular attendance at classes and in-person activities is compulsory and is considered essential for assessment and academic progress.

What qualification is awarded at EQZE?

Since 2019, the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has recognised EQZE's postgraduate courses as official university Master’s degrees. These programmes carry equivalent academic value and, consequently, the same professional recognition as those offered by the University’s own faculties.
